- Orlistat works by preventing some of the fat from the food you eat from being absorbed. It may avoid gaining weight but does not always cause you to lose weight.
- Orlistat is usually advised if you have started to make progress in losing weight through lifestyle changes such as dietary changes and exercise
- Treatment beyond 3 months is only recommended if you have lost 5% of your body weight. If you haven’t we would not advise orlistat and recommend discussing this with your GP.
